DEVELOPMENTS AND SUSTAINABILITIES IN RIO DE JANEIRO URBAN SPACE: A REFLECTION ON THE PATHS OF THE CITY

Abstract

This article discusses the complexity of political and social conflicts presents in the urban area of Rio de Janeiro, in view of the development model propagated and installed by the "ideological package" of Global City. Inserted in the globalization process, the modernization project is a result of the West’s progress thinking and it’s realized through the tending homogenization/fragmentation of the socially constructed space. Considering the asymmetry of power that permeates the relationship between local and global scales of space production, becomes obviously the unsustainability of Strategic Planning of the City. Therefore, will be presented other opportunities for development of/in the city, based on a social integration more complex than the consumer condition, ensuring for citizens equal rights and a free enjoyment of lived space.
