Introduction: Ecological markets play a fundamental role in promoting Food and Nutritional Security by offering consumers access to fresh, locally grown food produced using agroecological and organic methods. Objectives: The objective of this study is to understand the importance of ecological markets in Porto Alegre for the commercialization of organic production from rural settlements in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre (RMPA). Methods: A qualitative-quantitative approach was adopted, with bibliographic research, collection and systematization of primary and secondary data, cartographic production, and fieldwork. Results: The results show the presence of ecological markets mainly in areas of higher income in Porto Alegre; a wide variety of crops are sold, mostly fresh foods, as well as handmade or minimally processed products. Settlers market vendors are not the majority at the market; they are part of production cooperatives and have opted for organic production due to motivations related to health in a broad sense, as well as collective guidance. Conclusion: Ecological markets are important places for ensuring the commercialization of settlers' produce and thereby ensuring that families remain on their plots, as well as promoting Food and Nutritional Security. However, there is unequal spatial distribution marked by income levels, revealing unequal access to market space.
