Abstract

This paper seeks for a landscape interpretation of the Pedra Branca massif, from its first inhabitants 4 thousand years ago to the present 21st century. In focus are the transformations in the traditional life simultaneously to a growing industrialization in the 20th century. The landscape is seen as a frame in the space constructed by pattern (structure) and function (social and ecologic). It is also cultural. The individual and collective (society) experiences determine the landscape as well as the transformations by the time. Geographies of power, invisible and sensorial geographies and landscape ecology are considered in their contributions for the actual landscape of the Pedra Branca massif.
